Germantown police, firefighters hosting community open house
Free, annual event planned for Saturday
The Germantown Volunteer Fire Department Station 29 and Montgomery County Police's 5th District station in Germantown will host their eighth annual Community Open House on Saturday.
The free event is 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the fire station, 20001 Crystal Rock Drive. Meet mounted and motorcycle police and the Washington Capitals' mascot, Slapshot, and check out a U.S. Park Police helicopter, a Fire Safety House and the station's new fire engine.
A memorial service will honor the victims of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
Other activities include K-9 and vehicle extrication demos, a junior firefighter challenge, scavenger hunt, finger-printing kits, a flea market from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., T-shirts, car seat checks, a moon bounce, ice cream and hot dogs.
A silent auction to raise money for station equipment will include hotel packages, vacation timeshares, restaurant and merchandise gift certificates, autographed sports memorabilia, spa packages, golf outings and tickets to sports events.
Parking is available at the Regal movie theater in Germantown, 20000 Century Blvd.
