Detectives believe man never displayed weapon

Prince George's County police say a man alleged to have taken his 1-year-old son by gunpoint Monday in Glenarden may have been unarmed.
Cornell Antonio Bennett, 24, of Washington, D.C., was first reported to have taken Jo'Ell Jackson, 1, by gunpoint after forcing his way into Jackson's mother's Glenarden apartment in the 3000 block of Brightseat Road about 9 p.m. Monday, police said.
Police dropped a first-degree assault warrant for Bennett and there are no charges filed against him, officer Evan Baxter, a county police spokesman, said Wednesday.
No injuries were reported during the incident, Baxter said.
"The detectives are pretty certain there was no handgun displayed, which is why they rescinded the warrant," Baxter said.
Baxter did not have an update on the child, who is still with Bennett or information about how detectives learned Bennett was unarmed and if learning this information will become an issue later. Both parents have joint custody of the child and Baxter did not have identification for the mother.
"We are still hoping to talk with Mr. Bennett to get his side of the story, but at this point we are not actively searching for him," Baxter said.
