An endless summer for one Holton-Arms School senior

Dana McCreary, a senior at the Holton-Arms School in Bethesda and First Team All-Gazette lacrosse player, is one of 12 lifeguards from the United States who will represent the country in the world lifesaving championship in Geelong Australia in February. At a competition in Virginia Beach earlier this summer, McCreary won the national championship in beach flags — a competition involving sprinting through the sand and diving for a flag.
Murder mystery dinnertheater at B-CC
The curtain goes up on Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School’s second annual murder mystery dinner theater at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 18. A second seating, starting at 7:30, will help accommodate the expected crowd. The dinner theater will be held at Ristorante Tragara, 4935 Cordell Ave., in Bethesda and will feature the one-act play ‘‘The Patient” performed by B-CC Theater Arts students and directed by senior Laura Koran.
Tickets cost $40 for adults and $30 for children 12 and under.
Free valet parking is available and seating is limited, so reserve seats by Sept. 12. Each table seats eight to 10 people.

Run to benefitSomerset Elementary
Time to start training for the 18th annual Back-to-School Classic to benefit Somerset Elementary School.
The 8K, 2K and Kids Fun Runs take place at 8 a.m. on Oct. 9 starting at Somerset Town Hall, 4510 Cumberland Ave., Chevy Chase.
Registration costs $20 for adults, $15 for the 8K for kids under 18 and the Fun Run is free to children.
The course crosses Somerset, Chevy Chase and Friendship Heights neighborhoods.
All participants get brunch after the race and prizes will be awarded for top finishers.
Proceeds from the race help Somerset Elementary School provide scholarships for after-school programs, build its library collections and classroom resources and offer a rich cultural arts program. The classic is the school’s largest fundraiser.

Tee up for WJ Boosters
Walter Johnson High School Booster Club is hosting its Inaugural Golf Tournament on Sept. 25 at Needwood Golf Course in Rockville.
Tee times start between noon and 2 p.m. with prizes, carts and snacks included in the $85 registration fee. Club rentals are available.
All proceeds benefit the WJ Booster Club supporting more than 100 school clubs, athletics and social extracurricular activities for Walter Johnson High School.

NAACP Youth Council works to improve community
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Youth Council, Montgomery Branch, will hold a cookout noon to 4 p.m. Sept. 24 at Johnson’s Local Park, 18000 Washington Grove Lane, Gaithersburg.

Aiken-O’Neill assumesStone Ridge chairmanship
Patricia Aiken-O’Neill, Esq., was elected chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart. She assumes the three-year position from Mary Colbert Denger. Prior to being elected, Aiken-O’Neill served as a trustee on the board’s Executive Committee. She also served as the former chairwoman of the Committee on Trustees.
Aiken-O’Neill is president and chief executive officer of the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA), the world’s oldest transplant association.
A native Washingtonian and an alumna of Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart’s class of 1962, Aiken-O’Neill has authored numerous publications and has been a featured speaker at national and international forums. She and her husband, John F. O’Neill, M.D., live in Bethesda.
