We've got it covered
At The Gazette, we're proud of our reputation as the No. 1 source for high school and local sports news in suburban Maryland.
Beginning this fall, we'll unveil an exciting new coverage package designed to solidify that status. Daily updates on the Web, combined with our usual in-depth weekly print editions, will give Gazette readers the most comprehensive knowledge of local sports yet.
Every day a high school varsity game is played, our reporters will be in the field, covering key contests throughout Montgomery County. The stories they witness will appear the next day on www.gazette.net/sports and then expanded to provide a more in-depth look in the paper every Wednesday.
Our ultimate goal is to be the only source for scores, statistics and standings from every varsity game, in every sport, played in the county. But with 25 public high schools and numerous private schools, we can't do it without some help.
In the coming week, The Gazette will set up easy-to-use score hotlines over both phone and e-mail. We'll be asking coaches and scorekeepers to contact us after every game. What we find out, we'll pass on to our readers.
There may be some growing pains at first, but this system will eventually allow us to compile the most comprehensive records ever kept on Montgomery County high school sports.
But we also know that local sports are less about wins and losses than about the athletes themselves. Photos, videos and stories about the sons, daughters, grandkids, classmates and neighbors of our readers are the backbone of The Gazette's sports coverage. We don't want to change that; we want to improve it.
This fall, look for the players and teams you care about in print and online. Look for them on your local sports Web page and on our home page, www.gazette.net. Look for them in words, pictures and online streaming videos.
Wherever the game, whenever the day, whatever the medium — Gazette sports has got you covered.
