Students at Liberty High School are looking to strut their stuff to help raise money for the year’s activities.

Students will be collecting donations from Sept. 17-21 to help raise $7,500 for the 2008 senior class and school activities.

The fundraiser will culminate with a night of dancing and demonstrations for students from 8 to 11 p.m. on Sept. 28 at the school, 5855 Bartholow Road, Eldersburg. No money will be collected at the door.

Students must have at least $10 to participate at the dance. The dance will also feature free dance lessons and dance contests.

Students also have incentives to raise money. The student from each grade who brings in the most pledges wins a $25 iTunes gift card. A $30 pledge will enter students to win a $100 iTunes gift card. And the homeroom to raise the most money wins free breakfast.

Students will accept cash or a check can be made out to Liberty High School.

Eldersburg Elementary

Eldersburg Elementary, 1021 Johnsville Road, Eldersburg, has been awarded the Parent Involvement Certificate of Excellence Award from the National PTA.

The award is presented in recognition of outstanding parent involvement and for demonstrating a successful partnership between parents, staff and students for a school to excel, according to a news release.

The selected school also must have successfully implemented the National Standards for Parent⁄Family Involvement Programs, according to the news release.

Those standards, adopted in 1997, include ‘‘to promote meaningful parent and family participation, to raise awareness regarding the components of effective programs, to provide guidelines for schools that wish to evaluate and improve their programs,” according to the National PTA Web site.

The PTA’s sponsorship of curriculum-related field trips and Junior Achievement programs was also instrumental in receiving the award, according to the news release.

Sykesville Middle

Sykesville Middle School’s after-school program Community Learning Center is now accepting enrollment.

The program is open to all students at Sykesville Middle, 7301 Springfield Ave., Sykesville, and promotes academic achievement and positive interaction among students and staff.

The program runs from 3:10 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays, and helps students improve organization, time management and study skills. The center also includes clubs students can participate in after doing their homework.

The first cycle begins in mid-September and will last about nine weeks. Students can participate in more than one cycle of the program.

The cost is $3 a day and an additional $3 a day if bus transportation is needed. It is free to students who are on the Free and Reduced Meals program. Scholarships are available to help defray costs. Sykesville’s program is funded by Carroll County Public Schools.

Enrollment appointments are necessary. For more information, call Sharon Welch at 410-751-3547.
