Harborfest canceled due to weather forecast
National Harbor hopes to reschedule music festival
The Harborfest music festival planned for Saturday at National Harbor has been canceled due to threats of inclement weather caused by Hurricane Bill.
Rain would have detracted visitors from the festival, which was to feature rock bands Candlebox and Lifehouse, as well as funk artist George Clinton, said Ray Mertz of organizer Kool Productions Inc. on Thursday.
Mertz said the production company hopes to schedule a similar event later this summer.
"It may not include the same acts, but we'd like to do something," he said.
Although rain is likely over the weekend, Dennis Feltgen of the National Hurricane Center said Thursday that hurricane-force winds and flooding are not expected in the area as Hurricane Bill dissipates.
National Harbor spokeswoman Roccell Viniard did not return calls Thursday. However, National Harbor's Web site said refunds are available through Ticketmaster.
