Titans' baseball takes Cove Creek Tournament
The Titans' Baseball Club 14-Under Metro team, consisting of athletes from Frederick, Carroll and Howard counties, traveled to Charlottesville, Va. late last month, sweeping the Cove Creek Tournament in four games.
Starting pitcher gave up just two hits in the championship game, a 3-1 triumph over East Coast Elite of Virginia.
Spenser Ricks drove in two runs. Zack Blessing added a clutch two-out single late in the game, driving home Joey Robinson. The Titans continued to play superb defense as sure-handed second baseman Jamie Nail started two double plays, including a game-ender.
Ricks tossed a complete game in the semifinals, as the Titans defeated recent AAU National runner-up HYCP of Howard County, 5-2.
Ricks scattered three hits, as his team tallied four runs in the top of the sixth inning to open a 5-1 lead. Connor Thomas drove in two runs and scored another in the victory. Jonathan Oden knocked in a run with a single, and Tyler Silbersack also delivered an RBI on a sacrifice squeeze bunt.
The Titans beat the Virginia Tigers, 9-1, as Robinson pitched a complete game two-hitter.
After facing seven batters in the first and allowing one run with two hits, Robinson retired the next 13 batters in order. He also helped his own cause with two hits while scoring a run.
Mason Craig had two base hits in two trips to the plate while also scoring twice. Matt Nicholson also scored twice.
In the opening game, the Titans defeated the Columbia Red Storm, 11-4.
Thomas, the winning pitcher, allowed four runs on six hits, and also drove in two runs on a single.
