County police reports
The following is a summary of incidents in Silver Spring/Wheaton/Burtonsville to which Montgomery County police responded recently. The words "arrested" and "charged" do not imply guilt.
SILVER SPRING
Armed robbery
- On July 27 at 11:07 p.m. at the Days Inn, 8040 13th Street, Silver Spring. The suspects followed the victim as he walked in a hallway. They assaulted him and took personal property before fleeing. Suspects were described only as two black males, one armed with a gun.
- On July 27 at 9:12 p.m. in the 900 block of Browning Ave., Silver Spring. The three male suspects approached the victim, displayed a gun, and took personal property before fleeing on foot.

Robbery/assault
- On July 19 at 10:15 p.m. at Fenton Street and Wayne Ave., Silver Spring. The suspects chased the victim, knocked him to the ground and took personal property. The suspects fled in a four-door dark colored Toyota. The suspects were described as two black males, 17-23, 5 feet 7 inches-5 feet 9 inches tall, 180 lbs., dreadlocks.
- On July 24 at 11:10 p.m. in the area of Georgia Ave. and Ripley Street, Silver Spring. The suspect approached the adult male victim from behind, produced a knife, and demanded money. A struggle ensued and during the struggle the victim was cut on the arm with the knife. The suspect obtained cash before fleeing on foot. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 26-28, bald head.
- On July 27 at 11:35 p.m. in the 10100 block of McKenney Ave., Silver Spring .The suspects approached the adult male victim, displayed a gun, and assaulted him before fleeing with personal property. The suspects were described as two black males 22-26, 5 feet 6 inches-5 feet 10 inches tall, driving a red Toyota SUV.
Robbery
- On July 21 at 1:20 a.m. in the 500 block of Thayer Ave., Silver Spring. The suspects drove alongside the 18-year-old male victim; one suspect exited the vehicle, displayed a gun, and demanded the victim's property. The suspects fled after taking personal property from the victim. A lookout was provided by patrol and three of four suspects were stopped in the vehicle and arrested. Three of the suspects were described as males, 18 and 19, from Silver Spring and Wheaton. Suspect No. 4 was described only as a black male, 17. The vehicle was described as a 2004 Chevy Tahoe, black, with Maryland tags.
- On July 24 at 5:05 a.m. at Barron Street and Gilbert Street, Silver Spring. The suspects walked with the adult male victim after he made a purchase. They assaulted him, and took personal property. The suspects fled in a blue Toyota Sienna Van. The suspects were described as two black males, 18-25, 5 feet 6 inches-6 feet tall, 200 lbs., corn rows.
- On July 25 at approximately 11:45 p.m. in the 8600 block of Garland Ave., Silver Spring. The suspects approached the adult male victim, assaulted him, and took personal property before fleeing from the scene.
- The suspects were described as four black males, 18-25, 5 feet 10 inches-6 feet 1 inch tall, 150-170 lbs., wearing dark clothing.
Homicide
- On July 26 at 12:30 a.m. in the 11100 block of Columbia Pike, Silver Spring. The suspects engaged in conversation with the adult male victim. One suspect produced a handgun, and shot the victim. The motive remains under investigation. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders. The suspects were described as two black males, 19-21, dreadlocks.
Vehicle larceny
- Between 10 p.m. on July 25 and 7 a.m. on July 26 in the 12700 block of New Hampshire Ave., 11500 block of February Circle, 200 block of Treetop Lane and the 1700 block of Featherwood Circle. Airbags were taken from 6 vehicles, including 5 Hondas in the White Oak area. In four of the incidents, suspects gained entry into the vehicle by breaking a window.
Commercial burglary
- CD Game Exchange, 8236 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring on July 24 at 1:52 a.m. Forced entry, unknown if property was taken. A 25-year-old male suspect from Washington, D.C. was arrested.
La Chiquita Check Cashing, 632 University Blvd. East, Silver Spring between 6 p.m. on July 25 and 1 p.m. on July 26. Forced entry; property taken.
- Citgo Gas Station, 10226 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring between 9 p.m. on July 25 and 7 a.m. on July 26. Forced entry; property taken.
- Hollywood Beer & Wine, 12703 New Hampshire Ave., Silver Spring on July 26 at 9:20 a.m. Unknown means of entry; unknown whether anything taken.
- Radio Shack, 15747 Columbia Pike, Burtonsville on July 22 at 1:31 a.m. Forced entry, property taken. A 50-year-old male suspect was arrested.
Residential burglary
- 8000 block of 13th Street, Silver Spring on July 20 between 3 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Forced entry; property taken.
- 1100 block of Roswell Drive, Silver Spring on July 19 at 2:27 p.m. Unknown means of entry; unknown whether anything was taken.
10600 block of Patternbond Terrace, Silver Spring between 2 p.m. on July 22 and 12:31a.m. on July 23. Unknown means of entry; property taken.
- 2300 block of Homestead Drive, Silver Spring on July 22 at 7:08 a.m. Unknown means of entry; unknown whether anything was taken.
- 2000 block of Forest Hill Drive, Silver Spring at 5:50 a.m. on July 24. The victim was awakened by the sound of his roommate screaming and observed a suspect fleeing a deck area. No forced entry, property was taken. A 17-year-old male from Adelphi was arrested.
- Unit block of Kinsman View Circle, Silver Spring between 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. on July 25. No forced entry; property taken.
- 11700 block of Caplinger Road, Silver Spring on July 29 between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. No forced entry; property taken.
- 800 block of Milestone Drive, Silver Spring on July 23 between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. No forced entry; property taken.
- 800 block of Milestone Drive, Silver Spring on July 24 at 1:29 p.m. Forced entry; property taken. The suspects were described as two black males, 25-30, driving a gold Isuzu with blue and white sticker.
- 1100 block of Kathryn Road, Silver Spring on July 25 between 11:30 a.m. and 2:58 p.m. The suspect(s) broke a rear window and removed property.
- 14500 block of Golden Eagle Court, Burtonsville between 11 a.m. and 11:50 p.m. on July 24. The suspect entered an unlocked window and removed property. Upon leaving the scene the investigating officer observed four suspects who dropped a bag and fled into a residence. A check of the bag revealed property taken in the burglary. The suspects were subsequently removed from the residence and arrested. Suspect No. 1 was described as a male, 17, from Burtonsville. Suspect No. 2 was described as a male, 18, from Burtonsville. Suspect No. 3 was described as a male, 24, from Burtonsville. Suspect No. 4 was described as a male, 14, from Burtonsville.
WHEATON
Aggravated assault
- On July 21 at 4:50 p.m. in the 4300 block of Skymist Terrace, Olney. The incident was domestic. The suspect cut the victim with a knife during a dispute. The suspect was described as a female, 23, from Colesville.
- On July 20 at 1:35 a.m. at Grandview Ave. and Ennalls Ave., Silver Spring. The suspect struck the victim with a baseball bat and brass knuckles.
Theft
- On July 22 at 9:50 p.m. at Blueridge Ave. and Georgia Ave., Silver Spring The suspect grabbed the victim's purse and ran east on Blueridge Ave. The suspect was described as a black male wearing all black clothing.
Vehicle larceny
- Between July 19 and July 27 at various times in the 1200 block of Windmill Lane, 1400 block of Wagon Way and the 1400 block of Pillock Place.
Some entries were forced and in some cars were unlocked. Property taken included: car registrations, electronic equipment, and cash.
Commercial burglary
- Manor Country Club, 14901 Carrolton Road, Rockville on July 20 at 2:12 p.m. Unknown means of entry; unknown whether anything was taken.
- Dad's Pub, 5532 Norbeck Road, Rockville on July 26 at 1:39 p.m. Unknown means of entry; unknown whether anything was taken.

- 14100 block of Whispering Pines Court, Aspen Hill on July 21. Unknown means of entry; unknown whether anything was taken.
