Pedestrian struck, killed in Germantown Monday night
Man, 57, was attempting to cross Clopper Road when he was struck by a car
A 57-year-old man attempting to cross Clopper Road in Germantown was struck and killed by a car Monday night.
The man, Timothy Shawn Whalen of the 18400 block of Allspice Drive in Germantown, was taken to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to a statement from Montgomery County Police.
There is no sidewalk or crosswalk in the area where Whalen was killed, said police spokesman Lt. Paul Starks.
"There isn't a streetlight in the immediate area of where he was struck," Starks said.
Whalen was struck at 8:27 p.m. by a BMW driven by Josefina Marquisi Villegas, 31, of the 13200 block of Wonderland Way in Germantown. She was not injured, according to police. There is no indication that Villegas was under the influence of alcohol, Starks said.
