Bullis: Dog Days of summer long overdue
Sean Murphy's rebuilding of the Bullis football team, which has not had a winning season since its 6-4 finish in 2005, continued this summer with a more rigorous offseason program: weightlifting sessions three times a week, a twice-a-week running program and extensive work on passing plays.
We've had very good participation," said Murphy of the Bulldogs.
Murphy is hoping that the combination of offseason grunt work and a full year of instilled offensive and defensive principles should help turn the team's fortunes. Last fall, Bullis went 2-8 overall, 0-4 in the Interstate Athletic Conference.
The Bulldogs (6-24 for the past three seasons) will also benefit from the transfer in of former St. John's (D.C.) cornerback Robert Spriggs and the return of linemen Nathan Fisher and E.T. Gallant.
Fisher will help anchor the offensive line while Gallant will play both ways. Murphy said both have made great strides this summer, while Spriggs has drawn interest from Boston College, Rutgers and Temple, according to recruiting Web site www.rivals.com.
