What are your top three priorities for the next four years, if elected?
1. Drug treatment on demand 2. Character education in the public schools 3. Increase funding for school construction and reconstruction.
How would you rate the performance of the current representatives of your district: excellent, good, fair or poor? Why? Good. We listen well and work hard.
Do you support amending the constitution to give the legislature more budget authority? Yes
Is the rate of growth in Maryland too fast, too slow or about right, and why? Too fast in the outer suburbs and not enough redevelopment inside the beltway.
What programs would you like to add or cut from the state budget? How would you pay for additional programs? What would you do with the money from any cuts you make? I would like to increase funding for local police.
What must be done to ensure the long-term success of Prince George’s Hospital Center? I believe we must partner with a local medical school.
Is there adequate federal emergency and preparedness support for Prince George’s County given its proximity to the nation’s capital? Of course not.
Are there specific taxes or fees that you would cut? No.
Do you support slot machines for Maryland? Why or why not? No, I believe expanded gambling would devastate Prince George’s County with higher crime, higher bankruptcy, and higher foreclosure rates.
Do you support giving driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants? No
Do you support in-state tuition to illegal immigrants? Yes.
What is the biggest problem facing higher education and what would you do to solve it? We need to keep it affordable so people at every income level can go, not just the well to do.
Where would you get more money for the Transportation Trust Fund? First, I would fight to not raid it every time we get into a fiscal pinch.
What specific transportation projects do you see as priorities for the state? Purple Line
Should there be a dedicated funding source for Washington and Baltimore mass transit? Yes.
Would you re-regulate the electricity industry? Yes
Do you believe Maryland’s gun control laws are too strict, not strict enough or just right? I do not believe fighting for more gun control will do anything to stop crime. I would rather spend the political capital on increasing drug treatment and enforcing current laws.
What is your position on abortion? Pro-choice
Should the Maryland constitution be changed to allow same-sex marriages? I voted against the constitutional amendment that would have prohibited rights to homosexuals.
Does the state need stricter controls to protect the environment? Yes
