Learning business now for future entrepreneurs
Students from 14 Montgomery County high schools gained a better understanding of the international entrepreneurial community July 12-16, during a week-long program designed to increase local awareness of global entrepreneurship.
The project sponsored by the Silver Spring Chapter of The Links Inc., The Universities at Shady Grove and Montgomery County Public Schools, focused on helping students bridge entrepreneurship theory and practice with lectures, special guest speakers, web-based research labs and small group activities.
During the program, which was held at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville, students were divided into groups to develop a product or service that was relevant to the people of Chile, based on research conducted the first day. Some of the plans included nose bleed prevention techniques, producing a woman's magazine and creating brass and bead bracelets for teenagers.
Barnesville campers learn all about pizza
Campers at Barnesville School Summer Day Camp had a "supreme" week during Pizza Camp this summer. Campers from pre-kindergarten through ninth grade investigated everything from the origins of pizza to the different crusts, ingredients and styles of pizza, ranging from traditional style to tortilla pizzas and dessert pizzas.
The campers visited California Pizza Kitchen in Gaithersburg for a tour of the facility and an opportunity to work behind the counter selecting ingredients and dressing individual pizzas. They also rated local delivery pizzas and created their own Ultimate Pizza. Ingredient ideas included pineapple, macaroni and cheese, and cheeseburger toppings.
