Pepco outages at 29,000 in Montgomery, and declining
Around county, 35 roads still closed because of fallen trees
The county reported 35 roads remained closed due to fallen trees and power lines, county spokesman Patrick Lacefield said. Ride On, however, resumed operating on a normal schedule.
The county has closed the emergency shelter at Richard Montgomery High School, Lacefield said. About five people used it Tuesday night, but their power had been restored by Wednesday morning.
Summer school, camps, recreation programs and meals at 10 public schools were canceled Wednesday because they remained without power, said Chris Cram, spokesman for Montgomery County schools. Activities at schools with power continued.
To make up for lost time, regional high school summer school program is now extended 40 minutes per day from Wednesday through Aug. 6. Classes will begin at 8:10 a.m. and dismissal will be at 1:40 p.m., Cram said.
As of 9 a.m., the schools without power still were Burning Tree Elementary School in Bethesda, Carderock Springs Elementary School in Bethesda, Concord Center in Bethesda, Glenallan Elementary School in Silver Spring, Harmony Hills Elementary School in Silver Spring, Highland View Elementary School in Silver Spring, Julius West Middle School in Rockville, Sligo Middle School in Silver Spring, Strathmore Elementary School in Silver Spring and Westland Middle School in Bethesda, Cram said.
According to the Pepco website, fewer than 40 locations in Prince George's still remain without power.
