Bladensburg man arrested for teen's deadly June beating
Victim, 17, refused medical attention, dies from head injuries three days after attack
Police arrested and charged a 23-year-old Bladensburg man Sunday with second-degree murder and second-degree assault after his alleged attack on a 17-year-old boy in late June led to the victim's death three days later.
Devin Reginald Burgess of the 6000 block of Emerson Street was arrested in connection with the death of Christopher William Moody of Capitol Heights, Prince George's County police said.
Police said Moody was attacked by a group of men June 26 while he walked home from the Addison Road-Seat Pleasant Metro station. Burgess allegedly threw a punch that knocked Moody to the ground, causing him to hit his head, said Cpl. Henry Tippett, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department.
Moody made it home, where police took a report for the assault, but Moody refused medical treatment, police said. He was later taken to a hospital by family members where he died three days later.
Moody died from a subdural hematoma, Tippett said, which is a rupture of veins between the brain and brain membranes that can compress brain tissue.
Although initial reports state Moody was attacked by a group of men, Tippett said no one else was arrested for the attack. The attack stemmed from a personal disagreement between Moody and Burgess, police said.
Burgess is being held at the Prince George's County Department of Corrections in Upper Marlboro on $1 million bond, according to county District Court documents. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 23. No attorney was listed for Burgess in court records Monday.
