DreamMakers capture silver medal The DreamMakers Academy U-11 girls’ basketball team captured the silver medal at the 27-team AAU Division II Nationals in Dayton, Ohio June 29-July 7. The DreamMakers reached the title game with an 8-1 record, but dropped a 59-42 decision to the Hoopzone Gym Ratz. Ryan Maynard led the DreamMakers in the championship game with 12 points, while Raquel Lawyer added nine and Taylor McCarley had eight. Marjani Lilliard, Jasmine Jackson and Korin Harris provided solid play on defense. Maynard led the way on the boards with 10 rebounds and Chelsea Scarborough, Raven Taylor and Brooke Evans also delivered strong play in the paint and Lynee Belton and Malaika Lilliard also contributed. But the Ratz pulled away in the final four minutes for the victory. The DreamMakers reached the final in dramatic fashion as McCarley hit two foul shots with 1.6 seconds left to lift the team to a 43-42 victory in the semifinals against the New Hampshire Shooting Stars. Earlier in the tournament, the DreamMakers earned victories against Maryland Elite, the Maryland Grizzlies, the Columbus (Ind.) Nets, the North Carolina Lady Royals, the Connecticut Storm, the Kentucky Paris Stars and the Indiana Xtreme, winning by as much as 30 points. The second-place finish improved on the squad’s third-place showing at the Nationals a year ago. The team is coached by Stacey Bryant, Phil Dickerson and Brent Maynard.
