Division meets on tapMany competitors in the Prince-Mont Swim League will be vying for spots in the July 28 All-Star meet at Belair Swim & Racquet this weekend when they compete in their respective division championship meets. Greenbelt Municipal will host the Division B meet Saturday, which could not have worked out much better for Maresa Like-Mathews, an Eleanor Roosevelt High School graduate and North Carolina State sophomore who is winding down a 13-year career in the Prince-Mont league. Maresa Like-Mathews will be joined by younger sisters Courtney and Frankie in the girls’ 9-18 graduated relay event that caps the meet. Maresa will be looking to conclude her long Prince-Mont career with a victory in the 15-18 girls’ 100-meter individual medley the following weekend at the All-Star event. The personable Like-Mathews is hoping for a happy ending. ‘‘It’s hard to believe I only have two more meets left in Prince-Mont and then my summer swim career is over,” Like-Mathews said. ‘‘It’s hard to be believe that those 13 years could have gone by that quickly.” Belair Bath & Tennis (4-1) will seek its fifth Division A title this weekend without Emily Morse, a junior at Eleanor Roosevelt where she attained Star⁄Gazette Female Swimmer of the Year honors last winter. After winning the battle of the previously undefeated teams in Division F against the Russett Sharks, Prince George’s Council (5-0) will look to cap a perfect summer with a strong showing in Brandywine. PGC has a solid contingent of boys and girls. Chase Lintner will be a contender in the boys’ 9-10 25 butterfly, 50 freestyle and 25 backstroke. Christin George should be a factor in the girls’ 8-and-under 25 fly, 25 free and 25 back. In the 11-12 girls’ category, Natasha Chomko (50 fly, 50 free and 50 back) and in the girls’ 15-18 bracket, Valerie Barlow (50 fly, 100 free and 100 IM) will look to score valuable points for PGC. Russett swimmer Taylor Hicks, who competes in the girls’ 13-14 bracket, will look to lead a strong Laurel-based contingent into the divisionals. Hicks won three events at the Laurel Invitational on July 7 and will be among the favorites in the 50 fly, 50 free and 100 IM for her age group the next two weekends. West Arundel (3-2) will host the Division C meet Saturday as coach John Venit will look to daughter Kellianne Venit (11-12 girls) and son Jay Venit (8-and-under boys) to win their share of events. Both were triple winners last weekend against Adelphi, while Jake Harkcom was a double winner. Colette Pierce set new team records in the girls’ 8-under 25 breast and 25 free. Theresa Banks’ swimmer Temara Jordan, a senior at Fairmont Heights High, where she is a three-time Star⁄Gazette all-county first-team selection, will be the heavy favorite in three girls’15-18 events Saturday. Last winter, Jordan won two county championships and two regional titles and took second in two events at the inaugural state championship meet at the University of Maryland.
