Fort Washington loses to NR

The Fort Washington Sharks swim team won 25 of 47 events Saturday against Northridge, but still came up short, 284-255, in a Prince-Mont League Division C event. The Sharks (0-4) led after the freestyle and breaststroke and won all the relays, but were unable to stop Northridge (1-3) in the backstroke and individual medley.

Brian Wynn (free), Ryan Bonomo (breast) and David King (back) won the 8-and-under boys’ events for the Sharks. Wynn and King were also runners-up in the back and free, respectively, while Bonomo was third in the free. King also was third in the breast. For the girls, Raiven Vanzego and Madison Tompkins set personal marks with third-place efforts in the free and breast, respectively.

Don Brazelton won the 9-10 boys’ butterfly and free and was runner-up in the back. Jared Saunders set a personal best in winning the fly. Alexander Plansky was third in the free. Akeyla Holley won the 9-10 girls’ fly and free and placed second to teammate Kiara Leath in the breast. Leath was also runner-up in the free and third in the back. Gabrielle Stevenson set personal bests in winning the back, taking second in the fly and third in the free. Hala Benmoussa set a personal best in placing third in the fly.

Marcus Dennis was a triple winner in the 11-12 boys’ fly, free and IM. David Watson was third in the back. Gabby Griffin set personal marks in winning the 11-12 girls’ IM and taking second in the free and third in the breast. Jacqueline Taylor also set marks with a runner-up in the back, as did Jessica Balazek with third in the IM.

Dakota Hinely won three races in the 13-14 boys’ fly, free and back. Walton Irving was second in the IM and third in the fly and free. Basem Magd was third in the breast while setting a personal mark. Erin Dullahan won the 13-14 girls’ free and was runner-up in the breast and IM. Shannon Wynn and Eva Gonzalez were second in the fly and back, respectively. Becca Bonomo and Kimberly Scott set personal marks with third-place efforts in the breast and free, respectively.

Nicole Scott was a winner in the senior girls’ division in the fly and IM and second in the breaststroke, all with personal marks. Christa Kamon won the free and took a new mark. In the senior boys’ races, Jonathan Brevard set marks in the breast (first), backs (second) and IM (third). Joey Patrizio set a new mark with a third-place showing in the free.

In the relays, Vanzego, Tompkins, King and Brian Wynn won the 8-and-under event. Holley, Griffin, Dullahan and Scott won the girls’ graduated relay. Brazelton, Dennis, Hinely and Arthur Walton won the boys’ graduated relay.

The Sharks host unbeaten West Arundel at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the regular-season finale.

The Fort Washington Area Recreation Council Boys and Girls Club is holding registration for boys and girls ages 5 to 14 for the 2008 fall soccer season.
