Fort Washington teen pleads guilty to murdering food delivery man
18-year-old admits to shooting employee in botched robbery
A Fort Washington teen has pleaded guilty to the murder of a food delivery man, the Prince George's County state's attorney's office announced Thursday.
Lloyd Christopher Everett, 18, entered a guilty plea to Prince George's County Circuit Court Judge Nicholas Rattal for one count of murder in the first degree and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony for the murder of Jin Chin, 22, of Temple Hills. Everett faces up to life in prison, with all but 50 years suspended.
According to Everett's plea agreement, on June 19, 2008, Everett, and two other males — Andre Blake Washington, 20, of Oxon Hill and Rodney Timothy Berry, 16, of Fort Washington — were riding around in Washington's car. Following Everett's lead, the men agreed to rob a delivery man from the Szechuan Delight Restaurant in Fort Washington.
The men placed a phony delivery order to lure the employee that evening, and when Chin arrived at a home at 401 Vista Way, Washington hid his car nearby while he and Everett hid in brushes near the road, according to the plea agreement.
Berry then approached Chin while he sat in his car. Everett approached the driver's side, pulled out a handgun and ordered Chin to give him money. Chin's car rolled forward, hitting Everett as he fired his gun, shooting Chin twice in the upper body.
Everett, Washington and Berry fled the area while Chin drove his car forward to try to get away, eventually crashing against a tree, according to police. When police arrived at approximately 10:40 p.m. that night, Chin was found in his vehicle and pronounced dead on the scene.
Acting on a tip, Everett, Berry and Washington were interviewed by the Prince George's County Police Department in September and admitted their involvement in the robbery and murder of Chin. All three were charged with first-degree murder.
"It is good that [Everett] is facing justice. He is being held accountable for his deliberate and willful attack on a restaurant delivery man," said Glenn F. Ivey (D), Prince George's County state's attorney, in a statement. "We hope for the full sentence of 50 years to show the community that these kinds of crimes are not tolerated in Prince George's County."
Everett's attorney, Debra Jones, whose office is in Upper Marlboro, did not immediately return calls for comment Thursday.
Everett is scheduled for sentencing Aug. 20 by Rattal in Upper Marlboro.
Berry has a preliminary hearing on July 31 in Upper Marlboro. Washington's trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 3.
