Mayor Susan R. Hoffmann will officially kick-off her re-election campaign in front of Giuseppi's restaurant in downtown Rockville on Saturday at noon.

She plans to outline two new local economic initiatives she will pursue in her second term and the "next level of her Rockville Green Initiative," she said in a press release announcing her bid.

Hoffmann was elected in 2007 by earning nearly half the vote in a three-way race. Before that she had served three terms on the City Council.

She joins a growing field of candidates for mayor and council elections, which are scheduled for Nov. 3.

Thomas Moore, a member of the city's Compensation Commission, plans to formally announce his candidacy for council on Sunday at Giuseppi's restaurant at 1 p.m.

"This is just getting the ball rolling," he said. "The policies and positions will evolve as the campaign goes forward."

Carl Henn, who ran several unsuccessful campaigns for a seat on the council, this week also announced his intention to try again for a spot on the council.

"I hope to bring some creative ideas, defend what's good about Rockville and work to make it better," he said in an e-mail to the Gazette.

Mark Pierzchala, who ran unsuccessfully for mayor against Hoffmann in 2007, as well as East Rockville resident and political newcomer Craig Trapper Martin and longtime city Compensation Commission member Virginia Onley, have announced their intentions to run for a seat on the council in November.
