SSC drops Prince-Mont meet

The Suburban Aquatic Club of Lanham defeated the Surratts Swim Club of Clinton, 260-226, for its first victory this summer in Prince-Mont Swim League Division F competition. Surratts dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Sharks swimmers lose close meet

The Fort Washington Sharks (1-2) dropped a 271-265 decision to unbeaten Greenbelt in Prince-Mont Swim League Division C action on Saturday.

Don Brazelton won a triple winner for the third time in three meets this summer for Fort Washinton, claiming the 8-and-under boys’ freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. In the 11-12 boys’ events, Dakota Hinely also became a three-time triple winner with wins in the butterfly, individual medley and back, while Brandon Dennis captured victories in the free and breast.

Arthur Walton (13-14 boys) also was a triple winner for Fort Washington in the free, breast and IM, with both Joey Patrizio and A.J. Gonzalez winning the division’s back and fly, respectively.

Marcus Dennis won the 9-10 boys’ free and breast. In the older division, Daniel Leighton won both the fly and free, and Prescott Stewart was best in the breast.

Akeyla Holley (8-under girls) won the back, Meghan Bonomo (fly), Kristin Johnson (back) and Michelle McFadden (IM) all won events in the 13-14 girl’s division.

Fort Washington’s relay team of Holley, Michael Balazek, Kiara Leath and Brazelton took first place. Dennis, Hinely, Walton, Leighton won the boys’ graduated relay, while Nicky Patrizio, Brandon Dennis, Joey Patrizio, and Stewart were runners-up.

Fort Washington hosts West Arundel (1-2) Saturday.

Heroes lose in region final

The ‘93 Heroes U-12 boys’ soccer team was a region finalist at the U.S. Club Soccer Region B National Cup June 24-27 at Fort Dix, N.J. The team includes players from across the Metro region, including two from Prince George’s County.

The Heroes went 4-1 in the tournament under coach Desmond Armstrong, a former U.S. National Team member. The team beat Soccer Domain (N.J), 4-1, Northern Steel (Pa.), 2-1 and Rough Riders (N.J), 4-3, in the qualifying round. The Heroes then knocked off Albertson Academy (N.J.), 7-2, in the semfinals before losing to the NJSA Gunners in the championship game.

The team includes Prince George’s County residents Zachary Brown and Jabiri Hawkins, as well as Aaron Gottesman, Nicholas Njuki and Sachem Wilson of Montgomery County, Solomon Thomas of Frederick County, Cheo Armstrong, Yaw Amankwa, Kendrick Michel, Ossy Onumonu and Gavin Stephenson of Howard County and Andrew Burris, Jay Shoates and Mannaan Umar of Virginia.

FWARC holds football registration

The Fort Washington Area Recreation Council Boys and Girls Club is holding football registration for the 2006 season. Church basketball season begins

The Southern Maryland Eagles, formerly the Clinton Eagles, are holding registration for tackle football players and cheerleaders. The program is part of the Capital Beltway Football League and based at Andrews Air Force Base.
