DEALS
Hughes Network Systems of Germantown was selected by the South Carolina Division of State Information Technology to provide satellite broadband Internet service to state agencies and local governments for seven years.
Conmed Healthcare Management of Hanover was selected by the city of Roanoke, Va., to provide health care services at its jail. The three-year contract has two one-year optional extensions with a total potential value of $9.1 million.
AAI Corp. of Hunt Valley won a five-year Air Force contract worth up to $47.5 million to provide logistics support for a weather observation system.
Coventry Health Care of Bethesda agreed to acquire Mercy Health Plans, wholly owned by Sisters of Mercy Health System of Chesterfield, Mo. Mercy Health Plans has about 90,000 commercial risk members, 60,000 commercial self-funded members and 30,000 Medicare Advantage Coordinated Care members in Missouri and northwest Arkansas.
Centric Business Systems of Owings Mills acquired the copier division of Office Suppliers of Hagerstown.
Engineering company KCI Technologies of Sparks acquired ASC geosciences, which has 21 employees in offices in Lake City, Lakeland and Fort Myers, Fla.
GSE Systems of Sykesville, which provides of real-time simulation and training systems to the power, process, manufacturing and government sectors, formed a joint venture, GSE-UNIS, with UNIS of Beijing. GSE-UNIS, with headquarters in Beijing, will have more than 70 simulation engineers.
PROPERTY
First Potomac Realty Trust of Bethesda acquired 500 First Street, a nine-story, Class A office building in Northwest Washington near the Capitol and Union Station, for $68 million. The 129,035-square-foot property is undergoing renovations and is fully leased to the General Services Administration through July 2016.
Corporate Office Properties Trust of Columbia acquired the Rappahannock Building, a 152,000-square-foot, six-story, Class A office building in Tysons Corner, Va., for $40 million. The building is fully leased to Mitre Corp.
