Lillian E. Burnsteel
Lillian E. Burnsteel, 87, a 55-year resident of Warminster, Pa., died June 8, 2009, at St. Catherine's Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. She was the wife of the late Harry G. Burnsteel, since 1939.
Born Sept. 16, 1921, in Ambler, Pa., she was the daughter of Esther and Fred Cullingford.
She was an avid seamstress, gardener and cook. She made the best shortbread cookies and bread and butter pickles around. She worked at Berlin's Variety Store in Hatboro, Pa. She enjoyed being with family and playing pirates with her great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, great-grandmother, and great-aunt and will be missed.
She is survived by three sons: Harvey and wife Donna of Thurmont, Ronald and wife Lea of Paulden, Ariz., and Gerald and companion Sandi Thompson of Southampton, Pa. Seven grandchildren: Keith Burnsteel of Washington, D.C.; Cindy Burnsteel and husband Alvaro Contreras and their children Travis, Alexander, Nikolas and Gabey of Thurmont; Kevin Burnsteel and wife Carrie and their son Pablo of Cumberland, Maine; David Burnsteel and wife Amy and their children Sandi, Petra, Liam, Cory and Heather of Plano, Texas; Stephanie Burnsteel and husband Andro Franetovic and son Andro of Falls Church, Va.; William Burnsteel of Shelby Township, Mich.; and Jonathan Burnsteel of Wixom, Mich. She is also survived by former daughter-in-law Barbara Burnsteel of Troy, Mich.
She leaves behind her sister, Ellen Soltys and husband Paul of Lansdale, Pa. and their family, son, Mark Soltys and wife Margaret Mary and their children Mary Kate and Maureen of Havertown, Pa.; daughter, Elizabeth Frederick and husband Dave and their children Alysha, Matthew, and Emily of Schwenksville, Pa.; and son, Stephen Soltys and wife Delma and their children Erinn, Adam, Emily, Alec of Pine Grove, Pa.
Mrs. Burnsteel desired that her remains be used to advance medical research and education. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Lillian's name to St. Catherine's Nursing Center, 331 S. Seton Ave., Emmitsburg, MD 21727.
