Clinton rallies for county championshipThe Clinton Boys and Girls Club U-10 AA baseball team staged an eight-run rally in its final at-bat on Tuesday night to come from behind to beat South Bowie, 17-16, in the county championship game at Prince George’s Sports Park in Mitchellville. Three of Clinton’s four losses this season had come against South Bowie. But the Jets persevered after trailing for much of the game. Clinton erased a nine-run deficit in the final two innings. Kevin Spears scored a run in the sixth and Timothy White added a triple as Clinton scored twice to close the gap to 16-9 entering the seventh and final inning. Braxton Jones and Troy Batson both reached base to start the the decisive seventh-inning rally. Tony White, Victor Jackson, Timothy White and Preston Powell followed with hits that combined to bring in five runs for Clinton. With two outs, the Jets trailed 16-15 and were down to their final strike when Tony White hit a 3-2 pitch into center field, bringing home Powell and Christopher Pinkney with the final runs of the game. Outfielder Khamal Peterson and catcher Marcellus Webber both made contributions in the field and offensively. Jordan Russell, who had a run batted in during the second inning, Kristoff Richards and LaMarr Sutton also contributed in Clinton’s 17-run attack. Coaches Aaron Ajani, Kevin Butler and Thomas Jackson guided the team to a 9-4 regular season record. The Jets advanced to the championship game with a 25-14 victory against Beltsville on Sunday. Beltsville had gone 10-1 during the regular season and entered the playoffs as the National League’s top seed. West Arundel beats Fort Washington The Fort Washington Sharks dropped a 284-248 decision to the West Arundal Aqua Ducks in Prince-Mont Swim League Division C action on Saturday. The Sharks earned 22 victories and swept all of the events in the 13-14 boys’ and 15-18 girls’ age groups. Triple winners for Fort Washington included Dan Brazelton, Arthur Walton, Colleen McFadden and Prescott Stewart. Double winners were Marcus Dennis, Dakota Hinely and Nicole Scott. Rebecca Bonomo and Kiara Leath each notched their first victories of the season. Akeyla Holley, Kimberly Scott, Cara Brennan and McFadden combined to win the girls’ graduated relay. The boys’ graduated relay team of Brazelton, Dennis, Walton and A.J. Gonzalez also was victorious. Fort Washington returns to action at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with a home meet against Adelphi.
