Rain suspends game at Quince Orchard
Will the rain ever stop disrupting the American Legion baseball season?
The answer Friday night was an emphatic "no," as lightning halted, and then a pounding rain ultimately suspended, the clash between Gaithersburg Post 295 and Sandy Spring Post 68 at Quince Orchard High School in the bottom of the third inning.
Post 68 held a 2-0 lead, scoring twice in the top of the first inning against Post 295 starter Nick Karis. Brad Blum walked, stole second and then scored on a double to right center field by Alex Goodman for a 1-0 advantage. Goodman later scored on a single up the middle by Matt Luber.
Post 295 (13-2) had runners on the corners with two out in the bottom of the third and slugging right fielder Matt Civetti at the plate with a one-strike count.
