Sharks stay close in season-opening lossThe Fort Washington Sharks dropped their season-opening Prince-Mont Swim League meet against Cheverly on Saturday, 296.5-243.5. The Sharks kept the meet close despite missing several key swimmers and having a roster about half the size of Cheverly’s. Fort Washington had 22 first-place finishes. Brian Wynn (freestyle), Ryan Bonomo (breaststroke) and David King (backstroke) were winners in the boys’ 8-and-under division. Don Brazelton won three events in the boys’ 9-10 division. Akeyla Holley won the butterfly and freestyle and took second to teammate Kiara Leath in the girls’ 9-10 division. Marcus Dennis was a double winner in the 11-12 boys’ division, while Gaby Griffin won the 11-2 girls’ freestyle. Dakota Hinely was a triple winner in the boys’ 13-14 division, while Brandon Dennis won the breaststroke and Walton Irving won butterfly. Arthur Walton won the 15-18 boys’ breaststroke and notched two close second-place finishes in the free and backstroke. The boys’ graduated relay of Brazelton, Dennis, Hinely and Walton was victorious. Triple Threat takes league title The Triple Threat U-10 AAU boys’ basketball team won the Force One Spring League title last week, beating the D.C. Heat, 27-18, in the championship game. The team went undefeated in the league, notching wins against the Classics, the Bulldogs, the D.C. Blue Devils, the Heat and Force One. The team includes Myles Williams, Ryan Allen, Nicolas Fennell, A.J. Perez, Corey Manigault, Darian Dixon, Tyrell Slade, Kayon Whitaker, Taheeb Sonekan, Jabree Ray, Malik Adrea, Marcus Haynes and Thomas Bruce. Assault beat MD Future The D.C. Assault U-11 boys’ basketball team opened play in the Tom Jones Summer Basketball League on June 18 with a 43-39 overtime victory against Maryland Future. Michael Jackson led the way with 13 points, six assists, five steals and a blocked shot. Aaron Thomas, Adam Hamilton, Develle Phillips, Isaiah Martin, Jamal Wright, Jamar Arrinbell, Jiar Watson, Jordan Barr, Justin Route, Khalid Slocum, Ra’Mond Hines and Stevon Douglas helped the team combine for 43 points, 22 rebounds, 17 steals, 13 assists and three blocked shots.
