Sheriff's Office closes Middletown murder-suicide case
Toxicology report found that Wood had prescription medications, no alcohol, in his system
Christopher Alan Wood, the Middletown man who in April killed his wife and three children before killing himself, tested positive for four prescription drugs that were found in his home during the investigation, police said Wednesday.
The medications, which were prescribed to him, are alprazolam, buspirone, Cymbalta, and paroxetine, Sheriff Chuck Jenkins (R) said in April.
Alprazolam and buspirone are used to treat anxiety; Cymbalta is used to treat depression and anxiety; and paroxetine is used to treat depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and panic disorders.
Police also said Wednesday that Wood had no alcohol in his system at the time of his death.
The new information comes from the autopsy report, which the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner released to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday.
As a result, the Sheriff's Office announced it has closed the case, and determined that Wood, 34, killed his wife and three young children before killing himself.
No details about the victims' autopsies were released on Wednesday.
Wood killed his wife, Francie Billotti-Wood, 33, and their three children Chandler, 5, Gavin, 4, and Fiona, 2, with a low-caliber pistol while they slept in their beds sometime during the night of April 16 or the morning of April 17.
Wood killed himself with a shotgun.
As of April, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives was working to trace the guns Wood used because they were not purchased through a licensed Maryland dealer.
A message left for Cpl. Jennifer Bailey, spokeswoman for the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, was not immediately returned.
