Walkersville’s Jon Hill is The Gazette’s Boys Field Athlete of the Year. The junior set a state record in the 2A with a leap of 7-0.25.
First team

Track Athlete of the Year

Nick Huang


Won Frederick County titles in the 800 meters and the 1,600 as well as the Class 3A West Region 1,600.

Field athlete of the Year

Jon Hill


Captured the state high jump, seting a Class 2A mark along with eigth best long jump and triple jump. Scored 28 points in state meet.

Coach of the Year

Lee Palmer


Team tied for the state title in Class 2A.

Nick Forbes

Thomas Johnson, Shot Put-Discus

Won state title in the discus, fourth in the shot put. County and region winner in both. Also standout football player for the Patriots.

Alex Kachalov

Middletown, High-Long Jumps

Repeat All-Gazette performer recorded ninth-best high jump and 23rd-best mark in the long jump, placed fourth in 2A state meet in the long jump and fifth in the high jump.

Ben Horner

Brunswick, Discus-Shot Put

Athlete of the Year last season, made All-Gazette squad this season by recording the best discus throw in the state.

Dustin Fisherman

Urbana, Pole Vault

Won the county pole vault title and the Class 3A state title.

Dominic Clarke

Tuscarora, 200 and 400

Won county titles in the 200 and 400. Qualified for state meet in both events and has already verbally commited to play football at Ohio State.

Brock ChapmanThomas Johnson, Triple jump

Won the county champion in his event.

Erick ArtusioThomas Johnson, Pole vault

Patriots’ standout placed second in the Class 4A state meet.

Linganore 4X800

(Ricky Conner, Roy Jones, Joshua Hewitson, Tim Jones)

Ran the seventh-fastest time in the state while placing third in the 4A state meet.

Ceth ParkerCatoctin, 3,200

Longtime Cougar standout placed third in the 3,200 at the 1A state meet. Set a school record in the event.

Brad Boyd

Century, 400-pole vault

Versatile performer took Carroll County titles in the pole vault and 400. Boyd also placed second in the county in the triple jump and second in the Class 2A state pole vault.

Dylan Bernard

Urbana, 3,200

Cros country standout was sixth in the 3A State Track meet.

Will Scarff

Walkersville, Shot Put

Placed second in Frederick County meet and sixth in 2A meet.

nRichard Wilkerson

Linganore, Pole Vault

Placed third in trhe Class 4A State meet with a 14-foot effort.

nLiberty4x800 relay

(Tim Souders, Taylor Smith, Eric Liberatore and Matt Pierce)

Talented quartet placed third in the 2A state event and won both the Carroll County and West Region titles.

nWalkersville4x200 relay

(Keith Brown, Brandon Brownfield, Jose Depauda and D.J. Watkins)

Helped the Lions’ grab share of the state title, placing second at Morgan State. County and region champions.
