Conference highlights diverse expansion
Seminars include government procurement, appealing to disabled
Members of the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce learned last week that expanding their business is more than just moving into a bigger space or offering new products.
Seminars on how businesses can land contracts with larger employers and make their business more accessible to the disabled were among those attended by 59 chamber members, according to chamber information, during the chamber's "Exploring New Markets" conference last week at the Frederick campus of Mount St. Mary's University.
One of the presenters at last week's conference was Emily Dorr, art director at Jean Peterson Design in Frederick. Dorr partnered with Nicholas J. Damoulakis, president of Orases Consulting Corp. in Frederick, to give a presentation on the Enterprise 2.0 software and how businesses can use it to increase efficiency.
"There is not one tool that defines what it is," Dorr said of the software, which includes video conferencing capabilities as well as software that allows workers to share notes and other documents.
Dorr also attended seminars at the chamber conference, including one by Josh Mendelsohn, an attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice.
Mendelsohn, who is deaf, gave a presentation to chamber members on how to make their businesses more accessible to people with disabilities.
