Coach of the Year

Billy Goodman, Sherwood, 8th year; Guided Warriors to 21-1 record, with only loss coming in team’s second appearance at Class 4A state final in last four years.

Player of the Year

Kevin Brady, Gaithersburg, Jr., P⁄1B; Virtually unhittable on mound (9-0, 0.84 ERA, 112 strikeouts) as well as being force at plate (.439 average, 10 doubles, 2 HR, 28 RBI).

First team

*Alejandro Acevedo, Sherwood, Sr., 3B⁄P; Key member of state runner-up squad batted .424 with 4 HR, 6 doubles and 25 RBI while going 3-0 with 1.02 ERA on mound.

*Sam Bender, Wootton, Sr., OF; West Virginia-bound slugger rebounded from slow start to bat .350 with 6 HR, 28 RBI, 20 runs and 5 doubles.

*Kevin Fuqua, Avalon, Sr., P⁄3B; Capped stellar career by hitting .440 with 13 extra-base hits, 25 RBI, 8-4 record, 2.40 ERA and 134 strikeouts in 86 1⁄3 innings.

*Travis Hart, Paint Branch, Jr., P⁄3B; Guided Panthers to division title and top regional seed with .469 average, 23 RBI, 14 runs and 5-2 record on hill.

*Drew Hoffmaster, Sherwood, Sr., P; Crafty hurler went 12-1 and won three playoff games to lead Warriors to 4A state final.

*Chris Horning, Georgetown Prep, Sr., C; Fairfield-bound backstop hit .477 with 31 RBI, 37 runs and 10 doubles to lead Little Hoyas to second place in IAC.

*Kevin Johnson, Quince Orchard, Jr., OF; Paced three-time regional champions with .509 average, 6 doubles, 6 triples, 15 walks, 12 RBI, 33 runs and 18 stolen bases.

*Kyle Judson, Quince Orchard, Sr., SS⁄P; Preseason All-State selection batted .455 with 17 RBI and 22 runs and was team’s ace pitcher (5-2, 1.00 ERA, 44 strikeouts).

*Kevin McTighe, Rockville, Sr., OF; Mowed down nine runners trying to take an extra base, including six at home plate during last two years, and batted .358 with 2 HR, 16 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 2007.

*Jason Sargent, Wootton, Sr., P; Guided Patriots to regional final by going 8-0 with 1.59 ERA on mound while hitting .422 with five doubles and 14 RBI.

*Taylor Schallhorn, Blake, Sr., 2B⁄P; Defensive wizard batted .373 with 19 RBI and 16 runs and collected 4 wins with 1.26 ERA on the mound.

*Mike Serafinas, Damascus, Sr., SS; Slugging middle infielder batted .537 with 37 RBI, 24 runs, 4 home runs and 6 doubles.

*Collin Stevens, Good Counsel, Sr., OF; First-team All-WCAC selection batted .406 with 24 runs, eight doubles, 15 RBI and 12 stolen bases.

*Kevin Story, Damascus, Sr., P⁄1B; Propelled team to 15-2 record with performance on mound (6-1, 2.95 ERA) and at plate (.584 average, 21 RBI, 25 runs, 9 doubles).

Second team

*Peter Barrett, Wootton, Sr., DH; Injured elbow didn’t stop him from producing .458 average with 22 RBI and 20 runs.

*Matt Civetti, Clarksburg, Jr., OF; Hard-hitting outfielder batted .356 with 27 runs, 11 extra-base hits, including 4 HR, with 22 RBI.

*John Bergwall, Wheaton, Sr., P⁄C⁄IF; Helped Knights to best record in years, producing four wins and two saves on the mound to go along with .411 average and 11 RBI at the plate.

*Shane Boyd, Damascus, Jr., OF; Sparked county’s best offensive squad with .490 batting average, 21 RBI, 25 runs and 12 doubles.

*John Brauch, Northwest, Sr., P⁄IF; Dependable infielder at corner positions batted .404 with six doubles and 25 RBI while collecting 2 wins and posting a 3.53 ERA.

*Charlie Cononie, Northwest, Sr., P⁄DH; Towering right-handed pitcher notched 4 wins with 2.63 ERA and batted .452 with seven doubles and 18 RBI.

*Keith Hessler, Springbrook, Sr., 1B; Coastal Carolina-bound pitcher limited to first base duty because of torn ligament, but still hit .449 with 12 extra-base hits and 16 RBI.

*Justin Lambert, Paint Branch, Sr., OF; Slick-fielding outfielder batted .448 with 25 runs, 22 stolen bases, 13 walks and 9 RBI.

*Brad Lipman, Georgetown Prep, Jr., P; Defeated every IAC team, including champion St. Albans, and finished with 9-2 record.

*Matt Kaler, Whitman, Jr., SS; Paced surprising Vikings with .438 average, 24 RBI and 29 runs.

*David Moldawer, Q. Orchard, Sr., 2B⁄OF; Anchored Cougars lineup, hitting .452 with 21 runs, 19 RBI, 5 doubles and 12 walks.

*Kevin Molesworth, Damascus, Sr., OF; Another heavy hitter for Swarmin’ Hornets, batting .512 with 5 HR, 20 runs and 19 RBI.

*Carlos Pedroza, Wheaton, Sr., C⁄P; Completed four-year varsity career with .436 average, 23 RBI, 15 runs, 6 doubles, 2 wins and 3.66 ERA in 2007.

*Jake Spring, Churchill, Sr., P⁄OF; Leader of best Bulldogs squad in years, batting .396 with 14 RBI, 18 runs and 14 stolen bases while also going 4-3 with 3.08 ERA.

*David Zamostny, Einstein, Sr., Utility; Batted .511 with 20 stolen bases and 13 runs and was pitcher of record in all three of team’s victories.
