Strosniders Hardware recently celebrated its 55th anniversary with a grand re-opening of its Bethesda store, marking the shop’s first complete make-over in 22 years.

The store at 6930 Arlington Road, got an expanded customer service desk, paint design center, checkout stations, and ‘‘Go Green” product line.

Strosniders is a locally owned and operated hardware store that has served the greater Washington area for 55 years. Walter Strosnider opened the original store in April 1953 in the new Bradley Shopping Center at the corner of Arlington Road and Bradley Boulevard in the fast growing Washington, D.C. suburb of Bethesda.

In 1968, Strosnider moved the store to its current location at the northern end of the shopping center that was previously occupied by an Acme supermarket. Bill Hart, Stan Smith and Bob Koenig purchased the store from Strosnider in 1984, two years before his death. Today, Hart’s son, Bill Hart III, is general manager and Smith’s son, Craig Smith, is manager of the Bethesda store.

Strosniders also has locations in Potomac Village and downtown Silver Spring.
