Gymnast of the Year
Shannon Mitchell, Walter Johnson, sophomore
Followed solid freshman campaign with county meet-best score of 38.00 in all-around to capture individual county championship. Placed third or higher in all four events, including first on bars (9.45) and beam (9.55).
Coach of the Year
Dana Creager, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, 10th year
For third straight year, led Barons to sweep of county, state championships despite top performer Ebony Walters missing event at counties and state meet altogether while competing in a national meet.
First Team
Hanna Brande, Springbrook, junior
Continuing rise up county rankings, snared third at states in all-around (36.80) after placing fourth at county meet with score of 36.55. Won beam competition (9.55) at states.
Anna Hadfield, Blair, senior
Placed eighth in all-around at county meet with score of 34.15, helping resurgent Blazers to second-place team finish. Took sixth on floor exercise at states, scoring 9.05.
Monika Looney, Blake, freshman
Grabbed third in all-around at county championships with 36.85. Placed third on uneven bars (9.2) on way to fourth in all-around (36.30) at state meet.
Jennifer Roche, Walter Johnson, senior
Capped strong season, high school career by winning vault (9.425) at state meet after taking sixth in all-around at counties with score of 35.175.
Sophia Seidell, Blair, sophomore
Was main catalyst for Blair's best-ever finish at counties (second), taking fifth in all-around (36.025), then followed up with second at state meet (37.10).
Julie Siegel, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, sophomore
Steady performance (seventh in all-around at counties, sixth at states) keyed run of perfection for balanced B-CC squad.
Ebony Walters, Bethesda-Chevy Chase, senior
Last year's county, state champion unable to defend either, breaking grips at counties and participating in national competition during states. Dominated regular season, however, and won floor exercise (9.5) at county meet.
Nicole Williams, Blake, senior
One tough bars routine from capturing two all-around crowns. Took second at county meet (37.50) and won states with 37.5 all-around score.
