Gymnast of the Year

Danae Johnson

Blake, Soph.

Level-10 gymnast won the county all-around title with a score of 36.75 and then the state all-around crown with a 37.7.

Coach of the Year

Laura Parsons

Blake, 4th year

Parsons held team together despite early injuries and absences to guide the Bengals to a sweep of county and state titles for the second straight year.

Alexa Banda (Sherwood, Soph.)

Won the vault competition (9.0) at counties and placed third in the all-around at counties (36.13) and fourth at states (36.625).

Claire Miller (Walter Johnson, Soph.)

Helped Wildcats place second in the county and the state by placing fourth in the all-around at counties (35.85) and third at states (37.0).

Katie Pelton (Bethesda-Chevy Chase, Soph.)

Broke onto the county scene by placing in the top five in the all-around at counties (35.15) and states (35.775).

Jihanna Ritter (Gaithersburg, Jr.)

Placed fourth on vault in the state meet with a 9.375 and tied Blake’s Julie Tucker for sixth place in the all-around at county championships.

Dana Simms (Walter Johnson, Jr.)

Just missed placing in top six in county all-around meet with a 34.95 and helped Wildcats produce 169.8 points and a second-place showing at states with solid performance on the floor exericse.

Julie Tucker (Blake, Sr.)

Was one of five Bengals who scored 33.75 points or more by tying for sixth place in the all-around competition at counties (35.0).

Nicole Williams (Blake, Fr.)

Complemented Johnson’s performance by placing a close second in the county and state all-around with respective scores of 36.53 and a 37.425.
