D.C. man charged with first-degree murder in double shooting
Victim identified as 17-year-old from the District; 21-year-old treated and released
The victim of a fatal shooting Wednesday near Eastover Shopping Center in Oxon Hill was a 17-year-old Washington, D.C., resident, police said.
Police have arrested Jesse Hamil Miller, 23, of the District for the killing.
Eugene Jeffrey Dixon of the 600 block of Brandywine Street SE in the District and a 21-year-old man were shot at approximately 12:26 p.m. in the 4800 block of Indian Head Highway, Prince George's County police said. Dixon died in a hospital a short time later. The other man has been treated and released for his injuries.
The shooting occurred about a mile from the site of a March shooting in the District in which mourners were allegedly targeted after returning from a funeral, and four people were killed and five wounded.
Five people have been arrested and charged with involvement in the shooting.
There is no indication Wednesday's shooting was related to the March shooting, but due to the close proximity, Prince George's police said they would be looking into any potential connections.
The Wednesday shooting is believed to have stemmed from sort of "neighborhood dispute," said officer Henry Tippett, a spokesman for the Prince George's County Police Department.
Miller was arrested Wednesday night on New York Avenue in the District and has been charged with first-degree murder, Tippett said. No information was being released Friday about where Miller lives or where he was arrested to avoid potential retaliation, police said.
Witnesses of the shooting described seeing three men leave the area in a white, 15-passenger van, police said.
Police have made no other arrests in the case.
Miller is being held in the District pending extradition back to Prince George's County. No attorney information for Miller was immediately available.
A phone number for Dixon's family could not be located.
