Modern conveniences with Old World charm
Owners kept the best of historic farmhouse while upgrading its features
This completely restored historic home has the convenience and comfort of modern homes combined with the elegance and craftsmanship of buildings of the past. Even the exterior of the home has freshly painted wood paneling, and carved decorations on the wide porch that stretches across the front of the home.
The current owners enter the home via a back door in an addition as it is closer to the driveway than the front door.
The back door opens directly into a room which houses the washer and dryer, but is still a spacious room and could be used as a family room or playroom.
Next to this is the kitchen. The kitchen features stainless steel appliances and hardwood cabinets. The original carved wood doorframes and window frames were salvaged during renovations and now adorn the doors and windows of the home, kitchen included, giving it a truly historical feel. The kitchen ceiling is pressed tin with intricate patterns.
Along the narrow hallway toward the front of the home, there is a full bathroom. It's a large room with wainscoting on the walls that had also been salvaged from the original home during renovations. A claw foot tub sits against the wall. In the front of the home is the library, with wooden shelves undisturbed by the renovations.
Hardwood stairs with intricately carved posts and banisters link the first and second floors.
Two of the bedrooms on the second floor are a mirror image of each another with a walk-in cedar closet added during the renovation. There is a full bath in the hall with a walk-in shower.
The master bedroom has a suite of rooms. The bedroom itself is large, with a double closet. There is an additional room behind it, which could be used as a recreation room, or an additional bedroom if needed.
Next to this space is a room with windows lining the outside walls, a small sunroom positioned for afternoon sunlight. In the master bedroom itself, there is a small hallway leading to a private bath with a tall walk-in shower.
On the left side is a deep linen closet and to the right is another cedar walk-in closet, somewhat larger than the first.
The home has been updated to have all the comforts of newer construction, including an air conditioning system and new wiring, and yet special care has been taken to preserve the historic nature of the home with intricate antique doorknobs and hinges and the careful preservation of many of the original elements of the home.
