A 63-year-old Burtonsville man was killed Friday night when he was struck by a car as he tried to cross Route 29, and police are seeking witnesses to the collision to aid in the investigation.

Montgomery County Police say Victorino Alegria Angulo of the 14600 block of Wexhall Terrace was standing in the northbound lanes of Route 29 and attempting to cross the roadway about 9:40 p.m. in an area just north of Briggs Chaney Road and south of Greencastle Road in Burtonsville when he was struck by a silver 2003 Volkswagen Passat driven by Matthew Felton, 19, of the 5400 block of Ring Dove Lane in Columbia.

Angulo was pronounced dead at the scene. Felton and a passenger, Jody Raml, 18, of the 13700 block of Batchelors Drive in Silver Spring, were taken to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, according to a news release from county police. They have since been released, said Jeanette Wright, a spokeswoman for county police.

Police say the area of Route 29 where Angulo was attempting to cross is an ‘‘access controlled highway,” which means access to the roadway is from numbered exits as opposed to side streets, and has a 55 mph speed limit. There is no crosswalk at that location.

Wright said police are still trying to determine the cause of the collision, the seventh fatal incident involving pedestrians in Montgomery County this year.

Anyone who witnessed this collision and has not already spoken with police should call 301-840-2435.
