Arts Barn exhibit
Maryland artists have decorative and landscape paintings and sculptures on display through June 28 at the Arts Barn, 311 Kent Square Road in Gaithersburg.
An artist's reception is planned from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on June 9.
Haixia Liu, who was born to a family of artists in Hubei Province, China, began painting while working as a graphic designer for an industrial corporation, according to a city statement.
Liu experimented with various forms of oil painting, including decorative, abstract and realistic, then embraced his childhood dream of becoming a "pure" artist, the city statement said.
Glen Kessler uses landscapes to reflect the U.S. economic climate, according to city officials. His "Turning Season" series includes winter and spring scenes. He created his series of oil paintings for this Arts Barn exhibit during the winter and spring of 2008-2009, according to city officials.
Barry Woods Johnston's clay, bronze and stone sculptures are described as "light and lively in feeling" in a statement from city spokeswoman Britta Monaco. His designs reflect human emotions, while adding levity, movement and humanity, Monaco said.
