A Do or Dye Salon and Day Spa welcomed to Main Street

A Do or Dye Salon and Day Spa and its owners Tina Miller and Stefanie Scranton, were welcomed to Main Street during a ribbon cutting ceremony and grand opening on May 6.

Mayor James Holt; John Medve, president of the town council; Peter Helt and Wendi Peters, council members; Rob Scranton, building owner and volunteer with the Mount Airy Main Street Association; and Amy Lubick, president of the Main Street association, attended the ribbon cutting ceremony. A Do or Dye is located on the upper level of the newly renovated Bohn Building at 116 S. Main Street in historic downtown Mount Airy.

The Main Event opensFrederick warehouse

The Main Event opened a warehouse for its party rental division at 414 Pine Avenue, Frederick and expanded its party rental inventory times three. Servicing Frederick, Carroll, Howard and western Montgomery counties, The Main Event’s party rental service is focused on addressing the needs of consumers and small⁄medium enterprise customers.

The store, located at 1 S. Main Street, Mount Airy, was founded by Carol Cahall, owner, in December 2000. After establishing itself as a local party supply store, the shop expanded into event décor and then added balloon and gift delivery as the charter member of BalloonPlanet.com in Maryland. Mount Airy business wins remodeling award

Houseworks Unlimited, of Mount Airy, recently won a nationwide award for the best kitchen remodel between $40,000 and $75,000, in the 13th annual Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence. The award will be presented June 8 during the Southern Building Show at the Cobb Galleria Centre in Atlanta, Ga.

The project that earned Houseworks Unlimited its award was a remodeled kitchen in an historic 1909 Frederick City rowhouse. The outdated and small kitchen area was revamped into an upscale, modern space with cherry cabinets and matching pine flooring, according to a press release.

The winners were selected from more than 520 entries from 50 states; editors and writers of national home and garden magazines, including Better Homes & Gardens judged the competition.

Greater Mount Airy Chamberof Commerce news

* Mark your calendars for the next Business Card Exchange, scheduled for 4 to 7 p.m., May 23, at Lorien Assisted Living, 713 Midway Avenue, Mount Airy. * Parr’s Ridge Elementary’s scoreboard, which was paid for with proceeds from the chamber’s 2005-06 Mount Airy Phone Book, , was installed in the school’s gymnasium. The $5,000 scoreboard sports a large plaque with the chamber’s name. An official ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for later this year.

* The chamber’s first charity mini-golf tournament will be held at 8 a.m., June 8, at the Adventure Park USA in New Market. Proceeds will benefit The Erik Lerch Foundation, named after Erik Lerch who died in March after a two-year battle with cancer, and The Jeremy Foundation. Senior Appreciationon Main Street

Seniors can receive discounts at 25 Main Street businesses through an initiative with the Main Street Association. Every Wednesday seniors can receive 10 to 20 percent off purchases, special promotions and discounts. Treasure Hunt at Mount Airy Shopping Center

The merchants of Mount Airy Shopping Center will host a treasure hunt and pirate-themed activities at the center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., June 10, rain or shine.

Free entertainment for the event includes a shopping center-wide treasure hunt, pirate face painting, balloon artist, temporary tattoos, a buccaneer ship moon bounce, a costumed pirate handing out treasure maps, merchant sales and more.

Featuring Safeway, Rite Aid and Walmart, as well as a number of other shops and restaurants, Mount Airy Shopping Center is located on Ridgeville Boulevard. The center is owned and managed by The Rappaport Companies of McLean, Va.
