The Frederick Fraternal Order of Eagles #1067 invites local community members to the first Laurie Wolfe Hepatitis C Awareness Dance from 8 p.m. until midnight Saturday at the aerie, 216 East Patrick Street, Frederick.
The dance music will be country, classic rock and oldies tunes by featured band, Brandy Stills. There will also be a 50⁄50 raffle and door prizes.
‘‘As a person living with Hepatitis C, I know the seriousness of the disease and the pain that it causes,” said Laurie Wolfe, F.O.E. #1067 auxiliary member and the event’s namesake in a press release. ‘‘Our hope is to educate the public about Hepatitis, and promote awareness. Many people don’t realize that there are often no symptoms of the disease, which can cause cirrhosis, liver cancer and liver failure,” she said.
Wolfe has made Hepatitis C awareness and education her personal mission. As a victim of the debilitating disease, she has started an informative Web site, www.HopeforHepC.bravehost.com, in which she acts as an encouraging resource for those living with Hepatitis C. She also promotes awareness on other social networking sites and forums, on Google, Yahoo and Christian Vibes.
‘‘I advocate and educate by using these sites to reach numerous people around the world,” Wolfe said.
Frederick F.O.E. #1067 was instituted into the local community in 1928, and is home to more than 200 members.
