Queen Anne girls takes track title
Lions hold off Grace Brethren to capture sixth PVAC championship in eight seasons
The Queen Anne School girls' track team captured the Potomac Valley Athletic Conference championship on Tuesday, winning the two-day meet with 128 points an narrowly outdistancing 2008 champion Grace Brethren Christian School (125 points). It's the sixth PVAC girls' track title for Queen Anne in the last eight seasons.
The girls' meet came down to the 1,600-meter relay, with Queen Anne ahead by one point entering the final race of the meet. The Queen Anne team of Yinka Bode-George, Dejah Stewart, Lola Bode-George and Maya Jefferson edged Grace Brethren's team by just over 1 second to claim the race and the meet championship.
Queen Anne sophomore Jordan DeLoach was named Most Outstanding Performer, as she set PVAC records in winning the 100 and 300 hurdles. She also set a school record as she won the 400 and took second in the 200.
Edmund Burke won the boys' team title with 111 points, while St. Anselm's took second with 91 points. Junior Dosu Teyibo of Barrie Day School was named Most Outstanding Performer, finishing first in the 100, 200 an the long jump, and he took secon in the triple jump.
