Bands play for studio time

Seven high school bands from around the county competed Saturday in the Gaithersburg Battle of the Bands. First prize was recording time at the Olde Towne Youth Center studio, valued at $300. The event drew a crowd of more than 200 to the City Hall Concert Pavilion in Old Towne.
First place went to Midweek Crisis, an alternative rock band of four sophomores from Gaithersburg High School. On vocals was 16-year-old Awa Secka, Andrew Lloyd, 16, was on guitar, Graham Evans, 15, was on bass and Ryan Chinchilla, 16, played drums.
Second place went to alternative rock group The Agiles, from the Silver Spring and Takoma Park area. On guitar and vocals was Yitzy Holton-Hinshaw, 15. Gabe Koempel, 15, played guitar, Conor Donahue, 15, was on bass and Miles Kelley, 16, was on drums.
Two bands, Beyond Right or Wrong and Pulse, from Takoma Park and Germantown respectively, tied for third.
Second and third place received a free membership to the Youth Center.
