Boyfriend arrested after body of pregnant woman found near Forestville Military
Police charge Oxon Hill man in death
Bernard Bellamy, 20, of the 700 block of Quade Street in Oxon Hill was arrested Monday morning, a day after Valicia Andrea Demery, 19, of the 2000 block of Addison Road in District Heights was found dead with bodily trauma at about 6:30 a.m. by a resident who was jogging on the school's track, said Prince George's County Police Department spokesman Cpl. Clinton Copeland.
West Virginia State Police arrested Bellamy around 3:45 a.m. on the campus of West Virginia State University in Institute, Va., where the man attends school, according to Prince George's police spokesman Pfc. Evan Baxter.
A West Virginia judge is expected to rule on Bellamy's extradition to Maryland in the next few days, where he will be charged with first-degree murder, Baxter said.
Baxter said Demery was pregnant but could not confirm how far along she was or whether Bellamy was the father. Investigators are treating the case as being "domestic related," which could describe any crime between people who are married or dating, he said.
Marie Smith, an administrator at Forestville Military Academy at 7001 Beltz Drive, said Demery graduated from the school in 2007.
"She was very dedicated, that's all I know," said Smith, who said she thinks Demery was attending college at the time of her death. "A good person, an excellent student… It's a loss. It's really a loss."
Demery's relatives could not be reached for comment by publication time. A woman who answered the phone at a number listed under Demery on the 2000 block of Addison Road declined to comment. Calls to a number listed under Bellamy on Quade Street were also unanswered.
Baxter said he did not know what led investigators to Bellamy but said a vehicle was involved in Demery's death and police may have used the vehicle to track him.
