One of this sprawling rancher’s best features is its country flavor. Set on 1.28 acres just a stone’s throw from Route 26 in Walkersville, the 1988 home comes with farm field views, elbow room between neighbors and the simplicity of one-level living.

Although sparse on trends found in newer houses, the all-brick house was built to last and has been maintained meticulously. It offers more than 2,000 finished square feet, plus another 2,000 square feet in the unfinished basement.

Behind the front door, the entry foyer has ceramic tile flooring and large hall closets. The formal living and dining rooms are to the left; the home’s three bedrooms are on the other side. The kitchen and family room are situated in the back of the house.

The living room has gleaming oak floor and a bay window offering a view of the expansive front lawn and country road below. A cushioned window seat inside the bay coordinates with the draperies. Large double windows in the adjacent dining room provide additional sunlight. A pocket door, one of three in the living areas, offers optional closure between the dining room and kitchen.

Dual skylights overhead fill the kitchen with natural lighting. New-looking vinyl flooring and Formica countertops still have years of life in them. Woodwork, including chair rails and baseboards, is in excellent condition. Counter space and sturdy oak cabinets are plentiful.

Just behind the kitchen, a laundry⁄mud room and powder room provide convenient transition space for people with pets, kids, or groceries who would be entering from the oversized two-car garage. This annex also contains a coat⁄storage closet and a utility sink with shelving above.

In the family room, a gas fireplace provides winter warmth and ambience. The brick surround and natural wood mantel add to the relaxed country feel suggested throughout the home. French-style doors lead out to the back patio, a great place for relaxing and enjoying the surrounding greenery.

The concrete patio has been partially enclosed by a brick half-wall around its entire perimeter. About half the patio is covered and finished off with white beadboard paneling and a ceiling fan overhead.

Remaining rooms inside include two bedrooms, which share the hall bath, and the master, which sits at the end of the hall. The master’s amenities include a walk-in closet and full bath.

Downstairs, the basement has high ceilings and all the electrical installations needed for a future finishing, as well as ample storage space and carefree utility areas. Utilities are well and septic. Oil heat can be converted to propane.
