Clarksburg school boundary meeting set for next week

The next meeting to evaluate the four newest boundary options for Clarksburg elementary school No. 8 will be held 7:30 to 9 p.m. May 8 at the Rocky Hill Middle School media center.

Members of the boundary advisory committee will discuss the latest options that have been proposed by the school system and tell county school officials which options the parents in their community prefer.

County school systemto hold parent meeting

Montgomery County Public Schools will give parents the opportunity to ask questions about programs available in the county school system from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at school system headquarters, 451 Hungerford Drive in Rockville.

Members of the county’s division of Family and Community Partnerships will be available to answer questions. Staff members will also be able to help parents use county public school resources. For more information, call 301-279-3100.

‘Guys and Dolls’tickets available

Tickets are available for Rocky Hill Middle School’s dinner theater presentation of ‘‘Guys and Dolls” in the school auditorium.

The performance will be held at 7:30 p.m. May 3 and tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students and seniors. Priority seating will be given to those who have purchased tickets in advance, but tickets will also be available at the door. To purchase tickets, call drama director Jerilyn Nacht at 301-353-8282.

Tickets for the show only at 7:30 p.m. May 1 and 2 and 2:30 p.m. May 4 are $7 for adults and $6 for students and seniors.

Students to sellcars and computers

Members of the student automotive trades and information technology foundation will sell cars and computers they have refurbished.

The event will be held May 10 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Thomas Edison High School of Technology in Wheaton.

The cars have been inspected by the state of Maryland and were reconditioned by students in the auto trades program.

Damascus Post PromCommittee seeks volunteers

The Post Prom Committee at Damascus High School is looking for volunteers to chaperone the party at Dave & Busters in North Bethesda.

The party will be held May 18 from midnight to 5 a.m. Extended family members and local residents are invited to volunteer. For more information, call Sue Shepard, the post-prom party chairwoman, at 301-428-1634.

Time for kindergartenorientation

Parents of students in the Clarksburg and Damascus clusters that are planning to enter their children into kindergarten next year are invited to call their school to set up an appointment for kindergarten orientation.

Students must be at least 5 years old by Sept. 1 to qualify to enter kindergarten the next year under the county school system’s guidelines.

The schedule of orientations at local schools is as follows:

*Laytonsville Elementary, May 8 and 9.

*Lois P. Rockwell Elementary, May 14.

*Little Bennett Elementary, May 15 and 16.

Cedar Grovescholarship available

High school seniors that graduated from Cedar Grove Elementary School can apply for a $250 scholarship offered by the Cedar Grove PTA.

Clarksburg Elementary scholarship available

Two scholarships are available for high school seniors that attended Clarksburg Elementary School for at least two years.

The Clarksburg Elementary PTA is offering the $750 scholarships. The application deadline is May 15.

Clarksburg High School PTSA scholarship available

The Clarksburg High School PTSA is offering a scholarship to one senior and applications are now available.

The scholarship will be awarded based on grade-point average, extracurricular activities and an essay. The deadline for applying is May 16 and applications are available in Room 227 of the high school.

DHS post promtickets on sale

Tickets for the Damascus High School post prom party at Dave and Busters in North Bethesda are on sale before and after school in the rotunda. Tickets are $10. Everyone attending the Post Prom party at Dave & Buster's must purchase tickets ahead of time the party.

A Post Prom informational flyer is now available on the school Web site and in the main office.

CHS Green Schools winners

Congratulations to Clarksburg High School students Alicia Paterno, Jenna Smith, Salina and Eric Hong for answering the most correct answers on the Clarksburg High School Green Schools Club energy quiz..

Each of the students received a $10 gift card at the Battle of the Bands last week.
