Armed robbery, burglary hours apart in Capitol Heights
Police don't believe crimes are related
An armed robbery April 21 in Capitol Heights comes on the heels of an armed burglary occurring a few hours earlier.
At approximately 3:40 p.m., four men inside a green sedan approached one man walking toward the intersection of Doppler Street and Drum Avenue, according to a Capitol Heights police report.
One of the four men, a front-seat passenger who was wearing a black mask, held up the victim with a silver revolver and took his personal belongings. Capitol Heights Police Chief Jeff Dahn said he believes the victim was unharmed.
Dahn said his department does not list specifically what the suspects stole. The victim did not have a model of the car or a license plate description, Dahn said. The investigation is now being handled by Prince George's County police.
County police are still looking for a suspect in the April 21 armed burglary of a Family Dollar in the 1400 block of Addison Road South.
Both incidents are about three miles away from each other. Dahn said the initial investigation indicates the two crimes are not related.
"It would appear initially that they're not related," Dahn said. "However, we don't rule anything out."
At approximately 12:05 p.m., a masked man entered the Family Dollar holding a silver, semi-automatic handgun and took money, according to a Capitol Heights police report.
No one was injured, and the amount of money stolen is unknown, Dahn said.
The man fled on foot down Walker Mill Road toward Ritchie Road, the report stated. He is described as wearing a black Spyder brand mask and blue jeans with white writing on the back, the report stated.
Dahn said he does not know whether the burglary is connected to an April 2 armed robbery outside the Capitol Heights Post Office, 6089 Central Ave., two miles from the incident April 21.
Prince George's County police will handle the rest of the investigation, Dahn said.
