Trial date set for soccer coach accused of sex abuse
A Sept. 28 trial date has been set for Juan Jose Aranguri, a North Bethesda soccer coach charged with sexually abusing minors.
Aranguri, 47, of the 5700 block of Luxemburg Street in North Bethesda, was indicted on charges of sexual abuse of a minor, sexual offense in the third degree and attempted sexual offense in the third-degree in October.
Aranguri was arrested for the third time in early October after a girl came forward with allegations against him, and was released on $50,000 bond. He was also arrested Aug. 11 and Aug. 26, after which he was released on $50,000 and $25,000 bond, respectively, in relation to two other sets of allegations.
Before his third arrest, Aranguri had already stepped down as coach of a girls' team with the Bethesda Soccer Club and has been suspended from other coaching duties with MSI, one of the county's largest soccer clubs, pending the outcome of the case.
Aranguri's original arrest came after an alleged incident on July 9 at the South America Soccer Academy in Potomac, which he directed. According to charging documents, Aranguri massaged the legs of a 12-year-old girl and touched her inappropriately. He was charged with sexual abuse of a minor and two counts of third-degree sexual offense.
He was arrested again Aug. 26 after he allegedly inappropriately touched a 14-year-old girl in 2004. He was charged with sexual abuse of a minor, fourth-degree sexual offense and second-degree assault.
He was arrested for a third time Oct. 3 after he allegedly inappropriately touched a 13-year-old girl in 2007. He also allegedly encouraged her to have inappropriate physical contact with him and presented himself to her in an aroused state while fully clothed.
