Baysox break out with 8-0 win
Bowie amasses 16 hits to avoid four-game sweep against Reading
The Bowie Baysox will open a three-game series against the Erie SeaWolves in Erie, Pa., on Monday night after losing three of four over the weekend against the Reading (Pa.) Phillies.
Bowie lost the first three games of the Reading series before pounding out 16 hits and rolling to an 8-0 victory in the series finale on Sunday. The Baysox gave starting pitcher Jake Arrieta all the run support he would need when they scored twice in the first inning – both runs crossing the plate on a throwing error by Reading third baseman Neil Sellers. Arrieta improved to 2-0 as he went six shutout innings, striking out six, walking two and allowing just two hits. Reliever James Hoey tossed two shutout innings and Wilfrido Perez worked a shutout ninth.
Second baseman Miguel Abreu and right fielder Ambiorix Concepcion each had three hits for Bowie. Joseph Nowicki, Melvin Dorta, Brandon Snyder and Jonathan Tucker each had two hits.
The Baysox now return to Erie, where they swept the SeaWolves in a three-game series, April 13-15. Bowie also took two games from Erie two weekends ago when the teams met at Prince George's Stadium. After the Erie series, the Baysox will return home Friday for a three-game set against the Akron Aeros and a four-game series against the Trenton Thunder.
Bowie enters play Monday with a 7-9 record and in fourth place in the Eastern League's Southern Division.
