Fort Washington man found stabbed to death outside his home
Police say alleged attacker acted in self-defense
Prince George's County police say a Fort Washington man found dead from stab wounds outside his home provoked an altercation that led to his homicide.
Terrance Christopher Colbert, 29, of the 8700 block of Cumbria Court was found by police slumped against a vehicle suffering from cutting trauma to his upper body. Police responded to the scene shortly after 5 p.m. after receiving a call from a resident. Colbert was transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead, according to police.
Police said Colbert began to attack a man he did not know outside of his home and the man responded in self-defense by attacking Colbert with a knife, according to Officer Henry Tippett, a police spokesman.
"The male that was killed provoked the fight with the other male. He began attacking the other male, and he in turn defended himself with a small knife. The other guy is cooperating with the investigators," Tippett said.
Tippett said the name of the man connected with the homicide is not being released because has not been charged, adding that the knife allegedly used in the stabbing has been recovered.
Tippett said evidence will be turned over to the Prince George's State's Attorney's Office, which will decide whether or not to prosecute.
