Silver Spring’s Norwood Estates is home to spacious estate homes on 2-acre lots. Among those, a stately Georgian colonial is spread on over 2 acres of beautiful landscape.

The all-brick home offers over 8,500 finished square feet; and includes his⁄hers studies, banquet-sized dining room, and a large lower level complete with a bedroom suite, second kitchen, a sauna and a second family room with a fireplace. The home also has an attached six-car garage, as well as oversized brick and slate patios surrounded by well-manicured lawns.

A circular driveway leads to the property, impressive with the wide brick steps with wrought-iron railing that lead up to the covered portico with a pair of soaring columns and a wrought-iron balcony above.

Double wooden doors open to a grand foyer with chair rails, a center staircase framed by a pair of columns, and hardwood flooring that extends throughout the main level. A pair of walk-in coat closets with a window flanks the entry door.

Pocket doors to the foyer’s right open to a large living room⁄parlor with a marble fireplace, five windows and double French doors to a decorative balcony. A wet bar with mirrored wall is neatly tucked behind double doors, while double doors on the other side of the bar reveal a storage closet.

A hallway straight ahead of the foyer turns to a side hall with a powder room and a rough-in for an elevator, which is being used for storage.

An office is to the foyer’s left, with pocket doors. The space features crown molding, a trio of windows and a pair of closets. A second home office – hers – is located toward the back of the home off of the family room. This office boasts ample windows including one with a bench below and flanked by built-in bookcases, as well as an entire wall of built-ins.

The formal dining room offers crown and chair rail moldings, a triple window overlooking the side of the property, and a stunning chandelier that conveys. Window treatments and other lighting fixtures in the home also convey.

A pair of swing doors opens to the gourmet kitchen, where cherry cabinetry, granite counters and stainless steel Miele appliances are featured. A cooking island is oversized, and another island provides additional eat-in and food prep space. Other features include a pair of pantries, separate refrigerator and freezer with matching cherry panels, built-in wine rack, and recessed and under-cabinet lights.

French doors in the kitchen open to a brick patio with steps leading down to the driveway and side courtyard.

A cutout over the kitchen sinks looks out to the family room, which showcases a floor-to-ceiling brick fireplace with a raised hearth, flanked by built-in bookshelves and French doors to a slate patio. Recessed lights and a ceiling fan finish the room, rounding out the main level.

Upstairs, the various rooms are laid out in multiple wings.

A large suite, behind the stairs to the right, is loaded with closets including a large walk-in and a pair of linen. The bedroom area has crown molding, a fireplace, a trio of windows and an overhead fan. The attached bath has a ceramic tub with a window above, and a private shower and w⁄c, also with a window.

To the left of the stairs, two oversized bedrooms each have a pair of closets and a lighted ceiling fan. The nearby bath has a double vanity, a soaking tub with a Palladian window above, and separate shower. A double linen closet and a cedar closet are located in the hallway right outside this bathroom, as is a door to the partially finished attic that’s being used as storage.

Ahead of the stairs, a couple of steps down lead to the owners’ spacious suite that boasts an exercise room with a pair of windows and a skylight. Off of here, the laundry room has Miele washer and dryer, and opens to a sewing room with a wall of built-in drawers – ideal for a sewing and⁄or quilting enthusiast. Nearby, the bedroom itself has a fireplace, two walk-in closets and a marble bath with his⁄hers vanities, separate shower and a pair of skylights – rounding out this level.

The lower level can be a complete guest or inlaw suite, plus much more. It includes a carpeted billiard or game room with built-ins and access to the grounds; a family room with a raised brick fireplace and built-in bookcases; a kitchenette with a small refrigerator and a peninsula wired for a cooktop, as well as a closet with stacked Miele washer⁄dryer; a bedroom; a slate bath with a shower stall, a double vanity and a double linen closet.

The owners built the home in 1990 and worked very closely with the architect, so all the details were designed for comfort and convenience, according to the Realtor.
