The 25-year-old woman whose body was found Sunday near a Dumpster at her Gaithersburg apartment complex died from a gunshot wound, police said Monday.

Detectives say the motive may have been robbery.

Lindsay Marie Harvey, a DNA analyst for the Armed Forces DNA Identification Laboratory in Rockville, lived in the Grove Park Apartments in the 700 block of Quince Orchard Road, according to police and a statement from her employer.

County and city police were called to the apartments by rescue workers who responded to the scene around 2 p.m. after a resident walking in the area spotted Harvey lying on the ground next to a fenced-in Dumpster area that backs up to Quince Orchard Boulevard near Firstfield Road.

Police said Harvey returned home after socializing with friends, parked her car and was walking to her apartment.

Detectives believe that the assault happened between 1:15 and 2 a.m. on Sunday.

Anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious in the area is asked to call the county police Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. A cash reward is being offered.
