ICC, E-ZPass terms of service not customer-friendly
I find there's little to like about the toll plan and E-ZPass terms and agreement for the Intercounty Connector. If you only use the road periodically, you still end up paying for a transponder for each car and a monthly fee even. If you don't get the transponder, then you get hit with a hefty, bogus processing fee ($6 plus toll for a round trip no thanks).
The tone of the agreement is off-putting and dictatorial. You have to agree to let them image you as often as they like. You can only appeal a problem in writing. You must agree that E-ZPass Maryland may change the terms and conditions of this agreement at any time. They can take back the transponder whenever they like. They get to decide if you defaced the transponder and it's only good for four years. You are required to give them the freedom to place changes against your credit card to replenish your account whenever they please. They get to keep any interest on the money they keep in your account. They get to decide on any matters of a dispute of any kind.
At this point, my reaction was forget you, forget using the ICC, and forget your obnoxious terms of service. Why can't I simply pay in cash like any other toll road? If I do get a transponder, why can't I use it in more than one of my vehicles? Did any citizen representatives have input on the terms of this agreement? If they want to encourage use of the ICC, they need to do better than this.
